It’s high school senior season again–my favorite season of the year.
Of all the subjects I photograph, high school seniors have always been my favorites. I really do enjoy families and children, but seniors are still the most fun.
And this senior was no exception. He wanted something different. He said he didn’t want to lean on or hug any trees, so we headed downtown to take advantage of Denver’s great urban cityscape. We spent a recent morning wandered through a mix of old and new neighborhoods, using Denver’s varied architecture and street art as a backdrop for his senior year celebration.
We both loved the way Denver has century-old buildings side-by-side with some creative modern architecture. The colors, textures and patterns of the buildings make a great backdrop for portraits.
Some of the old apartment buildings have courtyards, brickwork and architectural details that really highlight our seniors. This old Denver apartment building had a great courtyard with three doors that opened on to it. We laughed when all three doors opened at the same time and three men dressed in business clothes came out and hustled across the courtyard and down the stairs onto the street. It was almost like it was rehearsed somehow.
Some of the alleys have some great street art. This mural is probably one of my favorites in that part of downtown. It’s a great pop of color to set off his blue shirt. Having a senior, especially a senior guy, with a great sense of style makes my job easier and lots more fun.
We wrapped up this fun senior portrait session with a stop at the Colorado State Capitol for his more formal portraits–Mom asked for a few in his suit. We did some great shots both inside and outside the capitol building (you can see more from this session on my Facebook page) and I just love the feel of this one.
This downtown Denver Senior Portrait session was so much fun, I’m already looking forward to my next one. Whether you love the urban street scene, the great outdoors or your favorite sports park, we would love to make senior portraits that really tell the story of you.
